Wreaths Across America program was held at the Raleigh National Cemetery, where 5,400 graves were marked with a beautiful wreath donated by groups and individuals. It was a beautiful sight to behold. Smith-Bryan DAR daughters Mary Aker, Gayenell Gull, and Mary Ann Rix attended the event on December 14.
On December 13, Smith-Bryan Daughters delivered Fit Feet and Food for Troops items to MMIA.
November 2022
Smith-Bryan’s Rebecca Foote Smith Owens and Cynthis Lescault attended a DAR grave marking cemetery of Ensign Benjamin Martin at Brier Creek Baptist Church Cemetery in Wilkes County, NC.
A proclamation was signed by the mayor of Smithfield for Native American Heritage month.
Col. Brent Orr of the Military Missions in Action spoke to the chapter about what MMIA does and how they help veterans and their families. Col. Orr was then present a U.S. Flag in Memory of Michael Dorman, who founded MMIA.
Chapter member Pam Schall won the Community Service Award for her volunteer work at Rally Point.
On November 15, Smith-Bryan Daughters was one of the supporters of the MMIA Golf tournament as a US Flag Sponsor for the MMIA golf tournament. MMIA Board Chair Jay Trevisan escorted members Dianne Howard, Gayenell Gull, Barbara Kirby, and Donna Hosea-Liles to the chapter’s sponsorship sign on the 9th hole.
On November 23, 2022, at Plainview Elementary, Smith-Bryan Chapter Daughters, Diann Howard and Pat Holiday delivered a Braille flag for the students without sight. Student that received is Banks Pope. Standing in for his Mimi, (Donna Hosea-Liles, DAR), who also attends at Plainview Elementary, Cooper Johnson.
At Plainview Elementary with Principal Smith Dolley Madison (Smith-Bryan’s Donna Hosea-Liles), visited approximately 68 students in 2nd grade on December 9, 2022. The students had been learning about President James and Dolley Madison. She encouraged the students to read and travel through books.
October 2022
Some Smith-Bryan members went to the local cemetery for hands on witching practicing after learning the proper ways to clean and preserve grave markers. Member Donna Liles went to Plain View Elementary School to teach third graders all about Constitution Day!
DAR Smith-Bryan Chapter members donated supplies to Harbor House, Inc., a shelter for abused women and children. A Chapter DAR Service to America community project on October 18th.
Member Mary Aker had so much fun handing out 450 books to children at our church’s community Trunk or Treat celebration last night. Each child got to select one book.

Associate Member Valerie Howell received the Constitution Week Proclamation from Princeton Mayor Don Rains on September 12, 2022 at the Town of Princeton Board of Commissioners meeting.

Mary Aker, Community Classroom Chair, delivered 525 books to Crossnore Communities for Children Winston- Salem from the Smith-Bryan chapter on September 16th.
On September 17, member Mary Aker placed 75 children’s books in the Little Free Library at Smithfield Park.
District VI NCSDAR Flag Retirement Ceremony. Sponsored by the General Davie Chapter at Little River Regional Park, September 18. Smith-Bryan DAR Chapter Regent Barbara Kirby, State Chaplain Jane Hogan, State Librarian Mary Aker, NCSDAR, and Valerie Howell, Smith-Bryan Associate member and N.C.S.C.A.R. Senior State President were in attendance.
Town of Godwin NC meeting Monday at 7:00. Mayor signed proclamation for celebrating September 17th through 23rd Constitution week.

Members of Smith-Bryan Chapter collected more than 280 stuffed animals to be donated to each of Johnston County's 24 fire departments as well to all of the county's EMS units. The animals will be given to children they encounter during emergencies to help to comfort them in stressful situations. September 2021
